UK, January 6, 2010 - Blu-rays could be getting even bigger as Sony and Panasonic have announced they have developed technology that ups the storage potential by some 8.4GB – an increase of just over 33%.
Blu-rays at present hold some 25GB of data on a single layer and the proposed improvements would bring this figure up to 33.4GB. The enhancement – news of which comes courtesy of Blu-ray.com - would utilise existing readers and discs, with a simple firmware update all that would be required to implement the change.
This of course could have a huge knock-on effect for the PlayStation 3, although the new technology still awaits approval from the Blu-ray Disc Association.
